올해 봄에 오랜만에 만난 행성과학 연구자분이 6월에 한국에 오신다는 이야기를 듣고, 그런 기회는 다시 없을 것 같아서 열렬 초청:-) POSTECH에서의 강연회로 모셔오게 됐습니다.
일본 도쿄대학에서 학위를 받으시고 NASA와 미국 Brown대에서 소행성과 운석에 대한 연구를 하시고, 몇년전 일본 Hayabusa (매(맹금)) Project로 세계최초 지구에 가져오게 된 소행성 조각을 갖고 중요한 발견도 하셨습니다.
POSTECH에서 (한국에서?) 우주과학 쪽의 이야기는 많이 안들리는데 일본도 관련 분야는 직장 찾기가 상당히 어려운 것 같아서 본인도 많이 고생하신 모양. 지금 그런 분야에 관심 있는 젊은 분들에는 참고가 될 인생 이야기도 기대 됩니다.
포항과 근처에 계시고 시간이 괜찮으신 분께서는 적극 참석하세요~.
When I met a friend who works on planetary science this spring after a long while, I heard that he was coming to Korea in June. I felt it is the only chance and enthusiastically invited him to POSTECH to have a lecture here :-)
He received his Ph.D degree at Univ. Tokyo, worked at NASA and Brown Univ. on asteroids and meteorites, and also achieved an important work with the tiny samples brought to the earth from an asteroid for the first time in the world by Japan's Hayabusa Project.
I do not much hear about astro-science things in POSTECH (or Korea?). It is not easy also in Japan to find a job related to such fields. Thus, his life as a researcher might have been not an easy one. His story with his experiences would be full of inspiration for young people presently thinking of such research fields.
You, who live in or near Pohang and have time on that day, please come and participate in the precious seminar!
